Preparation for treatment — bed bugs
Bed bug preparation is demanding but decisive. Poor prep makes treatment ineffective and forces a restart. Plan 1-2 days.
To do before we arrive
Preparation checklist
- 1
Wash ALL clothes, sheets, pillowcases, blankets and curtains in hot water (60 °C minimum) then dry on high heat for 30+ minutes.
- 2
Put all washed clothes in sealed plastic bags and keep them like that until 14 days after the final treatment.
- 3
For non-washable items (stuffed animals, decorative pillows), freeze for 4 days minimum, or dryer high heat 30 minutes.
- 4
Empty dressers, drawers and closets in all affected rooms. Put contents in sealed bags outside the room.
- 5
Vacuum thoroughly: mattress, box spring, baseboards, cracks, furniture base. Empty vacuum into sealed bag immediately and take out.
- 6
Pull furniture 30 cm from walls in all affected rooms.
DO NOT throw out mattress or furniture before treatment — it can spread bugs and professional treatment often saves them.
DO NOT sleep in another room or at someone else's place in the days before — it spreads the infestation.
DO NOT use OTC sprays — bugs rapidly develop resistance and professional treatment becomes less effective.
- 10
For tenants: notify landlord in writing before intervention.
After treatment
What to expect
For 14 days after final treatment, sleep in the same treated room (to serve as bait). Keep using bed-bug encasements on mattress and box spring. Inspection at 30 days. 60- and 90-day follow-up available on request to confirm full elimination.
